Happy new year you amazing peeps you! 😉
How we doing? 15 days out of 365 already Maeen….Let our God be known as forever faithful!
Personally, 15 days in… the year has been quite interesting! I should however start with a brief mention of how last year was for me…it was in one word; Incredible.
Incredible on both fronts…good and bad…but how grateful I’m I that All things truly do work out together for our good, we who love and live for our God. A couple of hard moments here and few tears shed there, a lot of lessons learnt and loads of smiles and laughter, many miles traveled, phenomenal friends made, amazing opened doors, immense growth…simply Incredible. ☺️☺️
Now to 2017…its been quite something! In slightly just over 2 weeks I’ve learnt some pretty hard but amazing lessons, have slayed dragons (almost literally), have fought hard on my knees, have laughed and cried, have celebrated my birthday (Gives y’all the cue to say “Aaaaw…Happy Belated Birthday!”) ☺️ aaaaand… have realized all I’ll need in this great year of our Lord 2017…and here it is;
Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. (2nd Corinthians 12:9 NLT)
Yes people…were talking about Grace! 🙂
I’ve always found this conversation as recorded in 2nd Corinthians 12:8-9 between Paul and Jesus really interesting.
To put it into context, Paul had this amazing experience that in his words “No human is allowed to tell.”
He was caught up in paradise and heard things so outstanding that they cannot be expressed in words and He goes ahead to say that that particular experience was worth boasting about…( I mean, even today it would have been soo worth boasting about)…but so as to keep him from becoming proud, he was given a thorn in his flesh.
Three different times, he begged the Lord to take away this thorn that was obviously really uncomfortable, but each time Christ said “My Grace is ALL you need. My power works best in weakness.”
See like Paul, we all will have or already have certain thorns (weaknesses) in our flesh.
This year…I’m pretty sure a couple of y’all, including I, have ‘Work on my weaknesses’ on our resolutions list. We know ourselves best and the things that we probably struggle with…and I would love to offer you some encouragement today in the fact that you and I do not need to do it alone…for Christ promises His Grace to each and every one of us and more than that He says that it is ALL…yes ALL that we really ever need!
Some translations use the words sufficient and enough…so we’ll say it this way ‘His Grace is sufficient, is enough, is all that you’ll need for this new year and the rest of your years in this lifetime.’
But wait…there’s more! 😛
If you read further into verse 10 of the same chapter; Paul describes what this weaknesses are to him.
See Paul’s definition of weaknesses isn’t quite synonymous to the text book definition that we are accustomed to.
Paul explains what weaknesses are to him in verse 10. He explains them to be infirmities, reproaches, necessities and persecution. This shows that my weaknesses and your weaknesses do not have to necessarily be the things that we struggle with due to our fleshly desires…these weaknesses, these thorns in our flesh could be the hardships, persecutions, troubles and insults that we will go through in this very fallen world.
Those hardships, tribulations and persecutions that you’ll face in 2017…because at some point you will hunnie, I’ll want you to remember that even then…His Grace is ALL you’ll need! Not more money, more friends, more partying, more nothing…just His GRACE and knowing that His Grace will cover you and that it will all make sense and one day translate to and for the glory of Jesus Christ.
John Piper says;
The deepest need that you and I have in weakness and adversity is not quick relief, but the well-grounded confidence that what is happening to us is part of the greatest purpose of God in the universe—the glorification of the grace and power of his Son—the grace and power that bore him to the cross and kept him there until the work of love was done. That’s what God is building into our lives. That is the meaning of weakness, insults, hardships, persecution, calamity.
May you go forth in 2017 with so much confidence and hope, knowing that you truly have all that you will ever need for this new year and the next and the next…God’s Grace…that is absolutely free and will forever be sufficient!
Jesus loves you…and I do too! ❤️
Have a good one!
