An Open Letter to My Future Child; Fallen Natures & Love

Dear child,

Hi there you sweet lil thing! 🙂

Lately, I’ve been thinking a whole lot about you!

It might be because I’ve been seeing a lot of new mommies and lil’ cuties around, or maybe its this picture I saw the other day of a dad and his son wearing t-shirts with ‘copy’ and ‘paste’ on them…honestly, cutest thing I saw that day!

Or it could be that some time in August there was a Breast Feeding Awareness Campaign and I took a lot (maybe too much) interest because its never really early to learn about the nitty gritty and the importance of a mothers milk to her baby…yeah? Okay. Moving along….

In all honesty though, all these reasons are not really what have kept me drooling over the possibility of your sweet life and all that I hope to teach you in as much as it is because…that almost two moths ago, I joined millions of other Kenyans and voted for leaders whom you may or may not read about in your history text books and because your future mum is pretty patriotic, she will be back to that long voting line in less than a months time (preferably with a borrowed baby because…yeah…story for another day) But I digress!

Now child, politics in this country is something else!

It’s messy, tribal, at times confusing, somewhat strategic, sometimes annoying, often hilarious and definitely not for the faint-hearted.

Make no mistake though, I have no political bone in my body…well okay, maybe a couple grew this  past electioneering season and made me just a tad bit interested and also highlighted two things which in my books are much more important than the not-really-concluded Kivumbi 2017.

These two things are the reason I write to you today. These two things are; Fallen Natures and Love.

Fallen Natures.

This world, this nation is a fallen one. The people in it too!

We are all born fallen. It’s why we call it nature…

Psalm 51:5 “Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother  conceived me.”

Isaiah 64:6 “…and all our righteous deeds are like a filthy garment. And all of us whither like a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind take us away.”

Psalm 58:3  “Even from birth, the wicked go astray; from the womb they are wayward spreading lies.”

In my opinion, I believe that in this generation, nothing reveals our fallen nature as much as the struggle & grumble for power, what in another term is known as politics.

In and of itself, politics is not an evil. The fallen manipulators are and it breaks my heart to see so many people especially Christians being ensnared in it all, allowing the manipulators to you know…manipulate them into hatred, violence, anger, jealousy and plain ol’ lousy behavior!

Since time immemorial, sin (fallen nature) has easily entangled humans and made them forget that there is far greater than what is eye-beheld. It’s heart wrenching honestly and whats even more devastating is that politics is greatly entrenched in it all.

Now my intention is not to vent, especially not towards you sweet one… 🙂 I simply want to share my heart with you.

Yes child, we are all born fallen, but there’s something that happens to those who choose to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior of their lives. The nature of God overwhelms their fallen one and transforms them from the inside out…this superior nature of God, which is much greater than what is eye-beheld is Love.

Love.

Ooh what to say about Love? His reckless, overwhelming, never-ending love!

1 John 4:16 “God is Love and all who live in love live in God and God lives in them.”

Romans 5:8God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners…”

1 John 4:9 “This is real love-not that we loved God but that He loved us and sent His son as a sacrifice to take away our sins”

Ephesians 3:18And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high and how deep his love is.”

Psalm 136:26 “Give thanks to the God of Heaven, for His steadfast Love endures forever”

It is this love, this love that is much greater than all our human shenanigans that gives me confidence that our fallen nature can be redeemed, that all hope is not lost and that one day we will put aside all our difference and work towards a common good, not destruction.

Sweet child, should the Lord bless me with you, I hope to teach you so much but by His Grace, LOVE will be the most important of all of them teachings. Gosh, how I desire for you to be much better than I will ever be, much better than this fallen generation!

I desire to see you love God-our Abba and to love His people wholly! (Matthew 22:37-40)

I desire to have you see and love people as God’s most precious creation. To lay aside paradigms and any stereotypes of tribe, race, color, social status and love irregardless of it all! (1st John 4:20-21)

I pray that you will forever strive to lay aside those sins that easily entangle and strive by Grace to live in Love, holiness, morality and purity. (Hebrews 12:1-2, Philippians 4:8)

I desire to have you embrace servant leadership like the sweet Jesus that we serve. (Matthew 20:28, John 13:3-5)

I want you to be a light, that light that cannot be hidden. I want you to be Salt, salt undeniable in the mouths of the people you will interact with. (Matthew 5:13-16)

I want you to forever live knowing that this place isn’t home, that you are just a pilgrim, but a pilgrim with a mandate to share Jesus, that when we finally do go home, we will go all of us. (Hebrews 13:14, 2nd Corinthians 5:1)

For truly, LOVE is the greatest of them all!

I am praying for you sweet one.

I am also praying for all your sweet little friends and their future mommies and daddies. That their mommies and daddies will be transformed by the LOVE of Christ even now from the inside out and will in turn raise their future babies in this LOVE that sees beyond tribe or political divide, beyond race or social status.

Lovingly,

Your future Mama.

[P.S, that up there is me and my best friend; My only brother, who looks nothing like that now but definitely looks forward to being the cool uncle who will be doing all the nice treats…Yeah 🙂 ]
